Governor John Kasich’s 2016-17 Executive Budget made an historic investment in Ohioans with developmental disabilities, with nearly $300 million new dollars. The department has been reporting progress on the initiatives outlined in the budget quarterly. The first installment of Fiscal Year 2017 reflects data for the first quarter, July 1 to September 30, 2016.

3000 new waivers were funded by the 2016-2017 budget. Of those, 1,864 were available to individuals on the waiting list and 1,136 were made available to individuals seeking residential placement or those wanting to move out of an ICF (Intermediate Caare Facility). Other issues addressed in the budget were the new behavior support add on, rent subsidies for those moving out of ICFs, and efforts to promote community employment.
